Cardiac Services- New defibrillator at the Mary Peters Track, Belfast
16 Feb 2011
Staff and club members at the Mary Peters Track were trained today in the use of a new defibrillator by Tommy Carmichael from Cardiac Services, which is now available in the event of cardiac emergency at the facility.
The machine is simple to use and requires no formal training due to its innovative step-by-step verbal usage guide.
The technology used also determines whether a shock is required or not, so it is not possible to do harm to a casualty by over-use of the defibrillator. There is also an option for CPR assistance, which keeps rhythm to rescue breathing and compressions in between shocks.
Jenni Robinson, Admin & Events Manager at Athletics NI commented
“Although we hope never to need it, the simplicity of this machine as well as its presence as part of the track’s first aid kit is a great reassurance to both staff and customers.
Today’s training was very informative and we have had great feedback from those club members who attended”.
Athletics NI recognise that a defibrillator can mean the difference between life and death .
